Blog 4

Make a note about each of the 5 photos to explain what each one signifies, and how one leads to another. How does your organization convey your purpose?
The first photo signifies 1 + 1 makes 2 people. The second photo represents the two people from photo one joining hands in marriage. Photo three represents that marriage costs money. Photo four represents that the money from photo three is spent in places like the grocery store. Photo five represents this is how today's society lives.

Are there different arguments that you could have made by organizing your 5 photos in different ways?
I think if the photos were organized a different way, then there could have been different arguments created. For instance: if the photos were in reverse order, then the argument could be that in today's world, everything is doubled compared to a century ago.

Are there other elements you could add to make your argument stronger—for example, playing music with the slide show or adding text?
I think if I could add text to each photo this would create a much stronger message for the viewer to comprehend.

Who is the intended audience for this product? What values or opinions does the target audience hold? Does the company appeal to these values or opinions in the commercial? If so, how?

The intended audience for this product is anyone that is an owner of a cat. The audience I believe, wants to see exactly what is unique or appealing to the product being advertised, such as why they should by that company's product. I think the company does appeal to this opinion or value by describing the texture and flavor of the cat treats.

What are the social and cultural connotations within the text? What colors, pictures, or phrases are used? What technology does the text use?

I feel the advertisement had a positive effect on advertising their product to its viewers. A cat seemed to jump two stories high to catch a treat released by its owner. The advertisement utilized an outside environment and presented the cat at first continuing to jump to catch a treat from what appeared to be ground level. However, it then showed that the cat was jumping two stories high to retrieve such an amazing treat. The phrase "Cats Can't Resist" was also used. The technology uses computers, phones, and television to advertise its product.

What is the overall purpose of this commercial? (Be specific-- while most commercials are seeking to persuade, what is this commercial's specific goal for the intended audience?)

The overall purpose of this commercial is to treat cats with love and joy and reward them for their tricks and stunts performed on a daily basis. However, I think the company wants you to reward these cats with the treats presented in the commercial.

Is the commercial successful in achieving its goal? How do certain elements in the commercial work together to help or hinder the overall message?

If I owned a cat, then yes I believe the company is successful in achieving their goal through this advertisement. It provides humor as well as specifics about the product being advertised. I think when words and pictures are put together, it provides the audience with a much clearer message that is being delivered.

I think the audience in this picture is anyone who admires flowers or someone that is looking to cheer up their day. I took this photo for my wife and she loves roses, so it brought happiness to her day. If this photo was black and white, I do feel as if the audience would change. This would no longer bring the audience that admired the color photo. I think it would then represent depression or sadness and have the opposite effect. The title of the photo is "Sunday's Best" and yes I feel the title could change the perception of the audience. Sunday's are supposed to be relaxing and full of joy, so I believe that is what this picture represents.

Blog 1: Meme

This is the meme I created. This kind of tells a little bit of how my family and friends view what I do as well as nurses versus what I actually do. My family really think that respiratory therapist don't do direct patient care, so I thought a post of me doing desk work was funny. My wife also works as a CT tech and sometimes she feels as if I am hiding with co-workers playing video games. For some reason nurses have always thought that respiratory therapists are lazy until they need us, but this is how I feel they view us. My boss often thinks I should move mountains in order to complete the daily workload. I feel like I should always get to do the fun things like intubate patients all the time, however, 95% of my job is delivering aerosol treatments. I learned that I actually have an amazing career and a loving and caring family. Even though at times, I feel like they give me a hard time, they really do care about what I do. I also learned that as a respiratory therapist I should not want to intubate patients all the time because this means they are really ill. Overall, this was a fun exercise and I really learned the importance on how I view my profession as well as others.
