Who is the intended audience for this product? What values or opinions does the target audience hold? Does the company appeal to these values or opinions in the commercial? If so, how?

The intended audience for this product is anyone that is an owner of a cat. The audience I believe, wants to see exactly what is unique or appealing to the product being advertised, such as why they should by that company's product. I think the company does appeal to this opinion or value by describing the texture and flavor of the cat treats.

What are the social and cultural connotations within the text? What colors, pictures, or phrases are used? What technology does the text use?

I feel the advertisement had a positive effect on advertising their product to its viewers. A cat seemed to jump two stories high to catch a treat released by its owner. The advertisement utilized an outside environment and presented the cat at first continuing to jump to catch a treat from what appeared to be ground level. However, it then showed that the cat was jumping two stories high to retrieve such an amazing treat. The phrase "Cats Can't Resist" was also used. The technology uses computers, phones, and television to advertise its product.

What is the overall purpose of this commercial? (Be specific-- while most commercials are seeking to persuade, what is this commercial's specific goal for the intended audience?)

The overall purpose of this commercial is to treat cats with love and joy and reward them for their tricks and stunts performed on a daily basis. However, I think the company wants you to reward these cats with the treats presented in the commercial.

Is the commercial successful in achieving its goal? How do certain elements in the commercial work together to help or hinder the overall message?

If I owned a cat, then yes I believe the company is successful in achieving their goal through this advertisement. It provides humor as well as specifics about the product being advertised. I think when words and pictures are put together, it provides the audience with a much clearer message that is being delivered.

  1. This was an interesting pick for someone who doesn't own a cat! As a proud cat owner (I can't believe I actually said that) i can say that this ad is indeed effective. I especially like the line at the end when he said "and you wanted a dog". Very funny and effective at communicating that even though people know dogs like treats cats also do too!
